Freeze expected overnight into Monday

AUSTIN (KXAN) – A powerful cold front swept through central Texas during the overnight hours bringing strong northerly winds, high fire danger, and much colder temperatures.

KXAN Meteorologist David Yeomans says brisk winds are blowing in from the north, and could gust up to 40 MPH through the morning hours Sunday. A Wind Advisory is in effect until noon.

This powerful spring cold front has put an abrupt end to the 80-degree-plus temperatures Austin has enjoyed for the last three day. Strong winds combined with colder temperatures have dropped wind chills as cold as the mid-20s Sunday morning in the Hill Country.

This colder air mass will stick around for a few days, even bringing freezing temperatures to parts of central Texas.

“Low temperatures will be cold Monday and Tuesday mornings, with mid to upper-30s expected in Austin and some freezing temperatures likely in the Hill Country,” said Yeomans.
