Muttin Bustin’ daughter of APD officer

AUSTIN (KXAN) – It’s about as Texas as you can get and at this year’s Rodeo Austin one special young girl took the prize that made her Austin police officer mother very proud.

Lucky # 7, Alicia Aguinaga, age six, took the winning title in Saturday’s Mutton Bustin’ competition for children ages five through seven.

Mutton Bustin’ is a competition where young cowboys and cowgirls get six seconds of fame by busting out of the chute aboard their woolly mounts. Participants are scored on their own performance and on the animal, just like the professionals.

All kids receive a score, even if they don’t ride ’til the six second buzzer. Every participant in the Rodeo Arena receives a trophy and the overall winner, in this case, Aguinaga, wins a custom Hy O Silver buckle.

Every precaution is taken to make the event safe, including mandatory helmets and protective vests.

Alicia scored the overall highest score during Saturday’s competition, earning 88 points to take the victory.

Her proud mother, Senior Police Officer Veneza Bremner sent a video of the ride into KXAN and said, “I don’t care if the world knows that it is me screaming like a crazy person in the video.”

Congratulations to Alicia Aguinanga on her much deserved win.
