Mayor McGraw delivers State of the City address

City is renewed, recharged and resolved to take advantage of future opportunities

Round Rock Mayor Alan McGraw delivered his annual State of the City address on Tuesday, April 12, at the Texas State University School of Nursing.

The speech can be viewed below or on Time Warner Channel 10 or Uverse Channel 99 at 8 p.m. Mondays and Fridays.

Mayor McGraw noted there are a myriad of new faces in key leadership positions in Round Rock, from new City Manager Steve Norwood to new Chamber of Commerce CEO Doug Kurkul.

“I think you would all agree that rapid change can cause apprehension,” McGraw said. “And I must admit that initially, the thought of having so many new faces of leadership in our community did just that.  It caused all of us to wonder aloud what things would be like in the future.

“But the good news I offer today is that the apprehension is gone.  In fact, not only is the apprehension gone, but it has been replaced with enthusiasm.  Enthusiasm for the opportunities that lie ahead …

“I am so confident of that statement, and so enthusiastic about our future, that ladies and gentlemen, I believe that the state of our city is that it is renewed, recharged, and more importantly, resolved.  Resolved to continue building upon the success of Round Rock.”

The mayor then recounted the many success stories the community has experienced over the past 30 years, from successfully recruiting Dell to establishing Old Settlers Park on the east side of town. While those victories may seem a fait accompli today, they were anything but at the time, McGraw noted. And  those successes have been compounded into even greater accomplishments that have made Round Rock one  of the top communities in the U.S. for raising a family.
