Leander woman charged with spitting on police

LEANDER — A woman who had to ultimately be restrained and
secured to a backboard for arrest is facing felony assault charges
for spitting on officers after the spray from her saliva reportedly
covered an officer’s face and glasses.

Theola Dennis Henry, 26, of Leander, was booked in on charges of
disorderly conduct, harassing a public servant and resisting
arrest.

According to the felony complaint, Leander officers responded to
Lakeline Apartments where a man and woman were arguing
loudly.

The couple wouldn’t open the door but police decided to force entry
because of the nature of the distrubance calls they received. Once
inside, the man was arrested on outstanding warrants.

As police were leaving, the woman stepped out on her porch and
began screaming at the top of her lungs, the report said.

Officers noted that she was screaming obscenities that lasted
several seconds and extending curse words as loudly as she
could.

Because officers received calls at 4:30 a.m. and 5:50 a.m. and the
day was still early, the officers said they believed the woman’s
“volatile behavior would continue and disturb the public.”

Officers went back and found the woman slamming her front door
repeatedly.

She was placed in custody for disorderly conduct by noise. As she
was being taken from the apartment, officers said she went limp.
And because she would not walk, the report said, officers decided
to carry her. While carrying her, however, she reportedly began
kicking violently and spit on the officers.

The fact that they were on the second floor, combined with the
woman’s size and demeanor, officers said they feared trying to move
her down the stairs. The fire department responded and helped to
secure her to a backboard.
