Obama visit to close downtown street

AUSTIN (KXAN) – A large section of downtown streets will be cordoned off for about four hours on Thursday for President Barack Obama’s visit.

The Austin Police Department and U.S. Secret Service will be coordinating road closures, which also will affect Capital Metro bus service.

Buses will be detoured within the following perimeters: Sixth Street, Ninth Street, Brazos Street and Trinity Street. As a result, 14 bus routes will be detoured from around 10 a.m. until about 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Officials said detours may be altered or canceled with little or no notice at the the direction of police and the Secret Service.

Signs will be posted at each affected bus stop alerting passengers to the detours and providing alternative stops. Information is also available onboard buses. Passengers can pick up their bus at any stop along the detoured routes.

Specific detour information will be available soon on the Capital Metro website in the “Service Alerts” section in the top-right corner on the main page. Riders are urged to check the website for the latest detour information or call the GO Line at 512-474-1200 prior to beginning their trip.
