A 56-year-old man who told police that he often tried to help teenage boys stay out of trouble is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child after a 15-year-old told authorities that he was the victim of ongoing abuse.

Patrick Johnson, who lives near State Highway 71 and U.S. 183 in Southeast Austin, told police that he knew the teenager but never had a sexual relationship with him. He said the boy and others had often visited his home to use his computer and sometimes take rides with him on weekends.

The teen who made the report brought the matter to authorities’ attention while he was in custody at the Gardner-Betts Juvenile Detention Center in South Austin. The boy said that he had met Johnson three years earlier and exchanged sex for money or marijuana with him during that time.
