Wet weather causes nearly 30 accidents

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Wet weather Saturday was to blame for several accidents on Austin roadways.

According to Austin Police there were 29 accidents reported as of 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon.

Slick roadways are to blame for those accidents including one that caused the closure of the U.S. 183 flyover near southbound MoPac. The roadway has since reopened according to Austin Police.

First responders believe rain may have played a role in an accident in the 6300 block of Yaupon Drive early Saturday near the Arboretum.

According to police a woman was driving down a steep road when she lost control of her car. The driver passed over a retaining wall and landed, car nose first, near the front door of Larry Roush’s home.

“That noise was just incredible,” said Roush. “I really thought that the oven exploded.”

Police urge drivers to use caution when driving on area roadways. Keep your distance from other drivers and give yourself plenty of time to arrive at your destination.
