On September 29, 2012, thousands of volunteers at over 2,000 sites throughout the United States are expected to volunteer to help restore the beauty and vitality of our public lands as part of the 19th Annual National Public Lands Day (NPLD).  In Williamson County, the Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department, along with Discover Green – Young Environmental Leaders and REI-Round Rock, will be removing weeds from planting beds, maintaining a playground area and removing litter at the Southwest Williamson County Regional Park
National Public Lands Day began in 1994 and has grown into the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer event for public lands.  This year’s theme is “Helping Hands for America’s Lands.”  The purpose of this day is focused on our national commitment to:
• support our public lands,
• spend time outdoors, and
• be more active.
As part of this effort, NPLD is supporting both the Let’s Move Outside! and Youth in the Great Outdoors initiatives.  Learn more about both at the following links: www.publiclandsday.org/resources/lets-move-initiative/lets-move-outside and http://youthgo.gov.
To participate in National Public Lands Day for Williamson County Parks or for more information, please contact Michael Young, Williamson County Parks at 512.943.1923.  Volunteers should arrive between 8:30 and 9 a.m. and be prepared to work from 9 to 11 a.m.  The Southwest Williamson County Regional Park is located just north of F.M. 1431 on C.R. 175 in Leander, Texas.
