UT police hunt sex assault suspect

AUSTIN (KXAN) – UT police are on the hunt for a man they said tried to sexually assault a woman in a dorm.

It happened early Sunday morning at the entrance of Roberts Hall on campus. Police are now warning all students to be aware of their surroundings.

UTPD said a woman was walking into her dorm when the suspect came up from behind, grabbing her and trying to sexually assault her. She did manage to get away after hitting the suspect repeatedly.

Cameras in the dorm snapped photos of the suspect.

Suspect description

  • Asian male
  • Approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall
  • Tall, thin build
  • Medium-length black hair combed from left to right

Police sent out an alert to all students asking them to be aware of their surroundings and to travel in pairs, especially at night.

This comes at a time when campus is packed with families and students in town for orientation.

It has everyone raising their guard while this suspect is still on the loose.

“I thought it was pretty safe, but now I text my roommate,” said Rose Zhang, who lives in Roberts Hall. “We kind of made an agreement to watch out for each other. She joked that she wanted to buy a Bear Claw knife, and I’m on my way to buy pepper spray right now.”
