FORT HOOD, Texas (KXAN) – It is a memorable day as Fort Hood officials prepare to honor an important piece of their history and America’s history throughout the last dozen years.

The last Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected tank, or MRAP, that left Iraq following Operation New Dawn last December and the troop withdrawal is ready for display.

The 1st Cavalry Division Museum has set a dedication ceremony for 9 a.m. Tuesday at the museum.

That MRAP was featured prominently on national and international media as it crossed the border into Kuwait.  It will be put on display at the southwest corner of the museum parking lot at the corner of 56th Street and Battalion Avenue.

The soldiers from Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cav. Div., who drove the vehicle out of Iraq, are ready to ceremonially transfer the vehicle’s log book to the museum and to share their experiences during the withdrawal.
