Sue Field-MultiSport Journey’s

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Childhood obesity is a common topic of discussion these days and one organization has made it its mission to introduce kids to an active lifestyle and the outdoors at an early age.

Sue Field, the CEO for MultiSport Journey’s, was in the KXAN studio this morning to talk with Brian Sanders about her work in the Texas Hill Country.

Field has found several places for families to enjoy while getting in some great exercise. Her list includes:

1) Horseshoe Bay – Walk the Palm Trail with its live turtles and birds in the gardens, tricycle rentals and natural grass putting course; enjoy Turtle Beach with your little ones; and take a boat ride (including pontoon and water ski) all for a great family weekend.

2) Marble Falls – Granite Beach Water Park is fun for younger kids while older kids can learn to SUP at Go Paddle Down or Kayak with Just Yakin in neighboring Marble Falls.

3) Inks Lakes – HSB, MF and Inks are all constant level lakes. Inks offers beautiful hiking options around the lake at Inks State Park.

4) Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge – A peaceful birding area dedicated preserving wildlife habitats (23,000 acres and growing), it still has wildflowers and with all this rain, great green hill country views from the Rimrock Trail at Doeskin Ranch.

5) Longhorn Caverns – A great rainy day or beat the heat option is to explore the underground caves at Longhorn (always about 68 degrees). Take the guided tour inside the worlds 3rd largest scenic cave and see the rock formations carved by years of flowing water.

6) Visit Fredericksburg – In the heart of Hill Country, Fredericksburg offers miles of great if hilly road biking.
