Affordable housing project for downtown

AUSTIN (KXAN) – The affordable housing nonprofit organization, Foundation Communities , plans to build 135 efficiency apartments at 11th and Trinity streets.

It would be the first new affordable community built in Downtown Austin in some 40 years.

“We are very excited at the possibility of making the amenities and proximity to work in Downtown Austin available to lower income, working Austinites,” said Walter Moreau, who runs Foundation Communities.

Efficiency apartments at the development would be available to single adults making up to $27,000 a year. Rents would be in the $400- to $650-a-month range with all bills paid.

Units would be marketed to people who work downtown in the retail, restaurant and service industries with 10 units reserved for working musicians and 27 units reserved for clients of Caritas, Trinity Center, ARCH, Salvation Army and the Downtown Community Court.
