How to ditch the "9 to 5" schedule

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Over 800 working moms and dads, and future entrepreneurs, turned out to a special conference at the Hyatt Friday afternoon to learn how to ditch the 9 to 5 schedule, for a more flexible one.

“All you have to do is have an experience in a specific niche, and have passion for it,” said MaryEllen Tribby.

Tribby runs three $30 million dollar plus information marketing businesses and runs a website called, www.workingmomsonly.com . A website devoted to working mothers, showing them how they can market themselves online, and banish the corporate world for a career that works for their schedule.

“Working moms have more responsibility than any other single group of people. They have more influence than any other group of people,” Tribby said. “What we teach, you can do it from your home.”

“You don’t have to shower or put clean clothes on every day when you work at home. I do webinars in my pajamas. It’s great,” said Julie Sanford, a mother who now works at home.

“I’m kind of like a serial entrepreneur,” said Maruxa Murphy.

Murphy started working from home about four years ago, just before she had her daughter who is now three.

“I was used to working 120 hours a week, for a college. And I loved the work I got to do. But, I knew if I was going to do that, there’s no way I could be the best mom I could be. And so, this has given me an opportunity to be both. And I really enjoy it,” Murphy said

Murphy started her multiple online businesses with her husband, after following Tribby’s program.

“That’s one of the things I really learned from MaryEllen and other mentors like her in my life. It’s all about how you integrate your life. How you choose you want to live. And when you do that, you can be really, really successful,” she said.

Murphy now spends quality time at home with her daughter.

“And I only work four days a week, which is the best part,” she said.

Even better than working from home, Murphy said, it’s also about teaching her daughter life lessons, early on.

“It’s wonderful when I can hear my daughter say to me, ‘mom, I want to be just like you.’ I’m able to be a role model to her.”
