County to break ground on new emergency services center
Thursday, January 12, 2012, 01:33 PM
The county is set to break ground next week on an $18 million emergency services center.
The 20,000-square-foot Williamson County Emergency Services Operations Center, which will be located at 2001 S.E. Inner Loop in Georgetown, will house 911 communications, emergency management staff, the sheriff’s office, the Williamson County and Cities Health Department Emergency Management Division and more.
Construction on the center is expected to cost $12 million. Electronics, including 911 communications equipment and computer-aided dispatch equipment, will cost an additional $6 million.
County Judge Dan A. Gattis, Sheriff James Wilson, Commissioner Lisa Birkman, Commissioners Cynthia Long, Valerie Covey and Ron Morrison, and Emergency Services Director John Sneed will meet at 10 a.m. Jan. 26 in the parking lot of the Juvenile Justice Center, at 1821 S. E. Inner Loop, across from the site of the future emergency services center, for a groundbreaking ceremony.

That comes to $600 a square foot for the construction…… We wonder why we fail. What are the odds the winner of this construction contract is a campaign donor?

Hopefully, wilco taxpayers won’t get burned with the construction of this building, as they did with the Juvenile Justice Center foundation having to be replaced. If the same contractor is used, what proof will taxpayers have to assure them it won’t happen again.
