Conservatives meeting Friday in Texas

More than 150 social conservatives will meet on a Texas ranch Friday and Saturday to consider uniting behind a like-minded Republican in the presidential campaign.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins says many of the evangelical, Catholic and fiscal conservatives are looking for an alternative to Mitt Romney, but fear their influence will be diluted if they remain divided.

He says they’ll hear surrogates speak for all of the GOP candidates, including Romney and Ron Paul, on Friday evening.

On Saturday, Perkins says the conservative leaders will discuss the state of the presidential campaign and whether they should combine their efforts on behalf of a single candidate.

Perkins says he’s seen some movement toward former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.
