‘Souper Bowl of Caring’ kicks off

AUSTIN (KXAN) – One million meals — that’s what the Capitol Area Food Bank hopes to raise by Super Bowl Sunday.

Thursday, H-E-B and Randall’s kicked off the sixth annual Souper Bowl of Caring. The grocery stores stock their shelves with pre-packaged, protein-rich meals for the less fortunate.

“Statistics show that 1 in 5 people actually feel the hunger pain so this is one way that while we’re all enjoying the Super Bowl, we can remember those also in need,” said Leticia Mendoza with H-E-B.

The meals cost anywhere from $5 to $15. The food drive runs through Feb. 5.
