Austin Salutes: ‘New Dawn’ soldiers

CAMP BUEHRING, Kuwait (KXAN) – A special note of recognition for the two final 1st Cavalry soldiers to leave the Middle East, who were part of Operation: New Dawn.

Sgt. Taylor Jewett and Master Sgt. Happy Curtis boarded a plane on Jan. 3 from Kuwait bound for Fort Hood.

Jewett is an unmanned aerial vehicle operator with the 3rd Brigade.

Curtis is a signal support systems specialist and brigade noncommissioned officer in charge.

All other 1st Cav members of U.S. Forces, Iraq from Operation: New Dawn had already left the theater.

Their trip home caps a historic moment for the 1st Cav, in bringing all soldiers home.
