APD K9 officer honored in retirement

CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) – A K9 hero was honored in a retirement ceremony Sunday in Cedar Park.

Austin Police K9 Officer Vuk was celebrated by the Austin Police Department and the Greater Austin Crime Commission.

The retirement ceremony took place at the Happy Tails Pet Resort, located at 509 Cypress Creek Road in Cedar Park, Texas.

Vuk is a Belgian Malinois. The K9 was born in Holland on August 7, 2001.

After receiving extensive training, Vuk was commissioned by the Austin Police Department on February 13, 2006 and retired from patrol after six and a half years of honorable service.

Vuk and his handler Senior Patrol Officer Daniel Eveleth were responsible for 164 total arrests.

Officer Eveleth and Vuk also participated in countless community events throughout the City of Austin, a task that Vuk still participates in since retiring from active patrol duties.
