New Brushy Creek pedestrian bridge now open

Monday, September 10, 2012, 03:16 PM

A new pedestrian bridge over Brushy Creek opened last week at the 183-A toll road, connecting two trails along the creek.

The bridge, funded by Williamson County, the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority and the Texas Department of Transportation, connects the Williamson County Brushy Creek Regional Trail and the 183-A Shared-Use Path under the 183-A South Brushy Creek Bridge.

“This project provided the missing connection between these two great trail systems,” Williamson County Commissioner Cynthia Long said in a statement about the bridge.

The more than $1 million project includes a 120-foot bridge and 582 feet of trail, as well as upgraded landscaping and a fitness station, according to the release.

The Brushy Creek Regional Trail is a seven mile stretch that meanders along Brushy Creek from one mile east of Great Oaks to the YMCA on Highway 183 in Cedar Park. The Mobility Authority’s 183-A Shared Use Path runs alongside the 183A toll road and will eventually stretch more than 10 miles from South Brushy Creek north to the San Gabriel River.
