Teen dies after burglary, shooting

AUSTIN (KXAN) – An Austin man confronting suspected burglars was shot near his home early Sunday morning. He later died.

It happened in the 1500 block of Canon Yeomans Trail , near Manchaca Road and Slaughter Lane in South Austin.

Police responded to the call of a man being shot at 11100 block of Franklins Tail Loop . Officers say Mark Brandon Dominguez, 17, was found lying in the yard with an apparent gunshot wound.

According to witnesses, Dominguez and two brothers heard suspicious noises outside and went to investigate what they believed to be a vehicle break-in. Around 12:45 a.m., when Dominguez confronted the two men, who according to witnesses were in their late teens or early 20s, he was shot.

Dominguez, was transported to the University Medical Center at Brackenridge by Austin Travis County EMS with life threatening injuries. He later died as a result of the injuries he suffered in the shooting.

Officers continued searching the area and found a taxi cab with two males inside. One of the men matched the physical and clothing description of the subject involved in the shooting.

Police searched the two men and found the two juveniles were both carrying guns.

Both were transported to Gardner Betts Juvenile Detention Center. One is charged with murder, a first-degree felony, and unlawful carrying of a weapon, a Class A misdemeanor. The other is also charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon.
