NYE under way at Auditorium Shores

AUSTIN (KXAN) – For some families, New Year’s Eve is all about having some good clean fun–or fun you can wash off in the morning.

“This is a spider and this is a monster,” said Ruby Stankiewic, 3, who is living on the NYE fringe and sporting three temporary tattoos.

Stankiewic, along with the two siblings and parents headed out to Auditorium Shores Saturday to participate in ANY or Austin New Year–a free event, family-friendly, downtown, alcohol free event .

“I want to see the fireworks,” said Indigo Stankiewic, Ruby’s sister.

The event, which drew out more than 10,000 Austinites last year, features live music, films, hula hooping, food trucks and even a yoga class.

This year, $50,000 was allocated from the City’s Cultural Arts Division 2012 Operating Budget to put on the ANY event. The Texas Commission on the Arts also provided $2,500 in grant funds to support ANY.

The event runs until 10:30 p.m. and a fireworks display will take place at 10 p.m.

There is no parking at Auditorium Shores and there are road closures.

Parking is available at local garages where you will have to pay.
