APD: Man pulled knife in 6th St. bar

DOWNTOWN AUSTIN (KXAN) – Police say Chupacabra Bar on 6th Street became more of a weapons show than a watering hole after a man allegedly pulled out a knife to scare customers around noon Friday.

Dustin Aly, 29, is now facing a prohibited weapon charge and a resisting transport charge.

An arrest affidavit states a bar worker flagged down offers and told them Aly was drunk, pulling out a large knife, and frightening customers at the bar.

Police say they asked Aly to leave the bar to talk outside and that is when he jammed his hands in his pockets, jerked his arm away and began acting suspiciously.

When officers tried to frisk Aly, they said Aly tightened his arms muscles so they could not check his jacket pockets and then a physical altercation ensued.

Back-up officers were called and Aly was arrested.

A Smith Wesson military and police pocketknife was found in his right pocket, the affidavit states.

Officers described the knife as a spring blade knife–meaning the knife automatically opens if pressure is applied to a button on the handle.

When officers tried to take Aly to jail, he allegedly dropped to his knees multiple times forcing the officers to carry him.

An arrest affidavit goes on to state that Aly attempted to spit on one officer but was denied the chance when another officer quickly grabbed him and turned him away.

It is unclear how much bond Aly is being held on.
