City Council will hear the issue again on March 6 regarding the tract located at 800 N. Capital of Texas Hwy., Austin. The ordinance would change the permitted land use from office to multi-family.

Councilwoman Kathie Tovo directed staff to include a statement that the proposed housing project set aside 5 percent of its total number of units for affordable housing. Those apartments would be reserved for residents who earn 60 percent of Austin’s median annual family income or less. 

Developer Jim Gallegos of G5 Texas Development said he discussed having an affordable housing component on the complex, and the units would help the project serve a community need. Ralph Bistline of Brandywine Acquisition Partners owns the 16.8 acre tract.

Additionally, Councilwoman Laura Morrison asked staff to include a statement about the project complying with certain aspects of the current watershed ordinance. The proposed development lies in the Bee Creek watershed.

Council approved the amendment 7-0 on first reading Jan. 30 and 6-0 on second reading Feb. 13.
