Firefighters conquer stubborn wildfire

MOODY, Texas (AP) – Firefighters have finally fully contained a Central Texas wildfire that charred about 500 acres in the six days since it started.

Texas Forest Service spokesman Steven Carter says the fire was 100 percent contained Friday, and firefighters should be finished dousing hotspots by Sunday.

No injuries or structural damage has been reported. The fire started March 3 with a campfire at Iron Bridge Park on Belton Lake. Officials previously said the fire was contained but winds gusting up to 40 mph Tuesday fanned the flames.

The location is about 35 miles southwest of Waco.
