AUSTIN (KXAN) – The Lady Bird Johnson commemorative stamp is out just in time for those holiday cards!

On Friday, the United States Postal Service issued the commemorative Forever Stamp to celebrate the centennial of Johnson’s birth this year. She was born Dec. 22, 1912, and died at her home in Austin on July 11, 2007.

The Lady Bird Johnson souvenir sheet features six stamps, a quote from the First Lady reflecting her belief that the environment is our common ground, and a black-and-white image of the First Lady taken from a family photograph shot in 1963 by Yoichi Okamoto. Five other stamps are adaptations of stamps originally issued in the 1960s; which are visible legacy left by her projects e.g. wildflowers.

“Lady Bird Johnson’s impact to society continues to be felt by many today,” said Thurgood Marshall Jr., Chairman of the Postal Service Board of Governors. “Anyone who drives our nation’s highways today still benefits from her leadership transforming the American landscape and helping preserve its natural beauty. We’re pleased to honor her with this stamp.”
