HAAM Benefit Day set for Tuesday

KXAN (AUSTIN) – On Tuesday, folks across Austin will support local musicians. HAAM or the Health Alliance For Austin Musicians will hold its annual benefit day.

HAAM provides health insurance to musicians who often don’t earn much money but generate a major industry in the Capital City.

The music industry makes Austin about $2 billion per year, but the average income for Austin musicians is around $16,000 per year.

Back in December, HAAM officials had to close enrollment to make sure the 2,000 people currently-enrolled were able to keep their benefits and access to services.

In July, the group announced it had raised enough money to enroll more members.

HAAM Benefit Day will take place at restaurants, stores, and music venues around Austin as a way to raise funds. For a full list of performances, click here .
