Austin Music Hall to be renovated

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin Music Hall, on the day President Barack Obama appeared in the building for a fundraising event, announced plans for a major renovation to the facility.

In addition, Jason Hicks has been named as the new general manager. Renovation will include changes in the sound remediation led by Damon Lange, founder of Nomad Sound.

The sold out Tenacious D concert on July 19 will continue as scheduled, officials said

Improvements will be made in three phases with more than $250,000 committed to date.

The Austin Music Hall, owned by OmniBank and one of the city’s most iconic venues, has held some of the city’s largest concerts and events, including headlining performances from artists like Bruce Springsteen, the Austin Music Awards, and numerous SXSW performances.

The renovations will include everything from the overall sound and acoustics to venue painting and appearance to updated safety procedures and staff hospitality training, according to facility staff.

Hicks is also owner and producer at The Electric Company, which will be the in-house production company for all Austin Music Hall performances. Hicks and The Electric Company have overseen the production of many events from concept to completion, including the eminent Seaholm Power Plant shows.

“We are very excited to help revive and bring new life to this important Austin venue. We can’t wait for the public to experience the final product of our hard work,” said Hicks.

The venue’s sound upgrades are being done by Nomad Sound in phases. The initial phase, which is currently ongoing, includes installing 63 new acoustic panels, installing tube traps, draping corners, installation of a mezzanine level acoustic curtain, and more.

“We have taken on the challenge of improving the sound at the Austin Music Hall and have come up with some solutions we believe will make a big difference,” says Damon Lange, owner of Nomad Sound.
