Hopefuls try to land movie parts

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Hundreds of hopefuls showed up on Saturday morning to audition as extras in the newest Rick Rodriguez movie, which will be a sequel to the cult film Machete.

Many in the line already have starred in Rodriguez films, including Machete. The sequel will be filmed in Austin, just like the original film was in 2010. The sequel will be called Machete Kills, and it will star a number of stars from the original film, including Danny Trejo and Jessica Alba.

One many in the line waiting for an addition served as Don Johnson’s militia man in one movie. Another, a woman, starred as an extra in a film where only the back of her head was seen.

“Basically, I had the right hair so I was picked,” she said.

A third man in line drive five hours, from San Juan Texas, to audition for a role in the movie. He was a fan of Machete and wanted to be in the sequel.

Machete Kills is expected to hit the theaters in 2013. Rodriguez also is planning a sequel to Sin City, which will premiere in theaters in 2013, too.
