Man shot, killed by homeowner in Avery Ranch

AUSTIN — Police are investigating a fatal shooting this morning
after an Avery Ranch homeonwer apparently shot a 23-year-old man
who had crashed his car on Avery Ranch Boulevard, according to
online and televised reports.

The shooting occured about 3 a.m. in the 11300 block of Staked
Plains Drive, in the Granite Shoals neighborhood of the Avery Ranch
Subdivision.

The victim has
been described as a 23-year-old Hispanic man, but police have not
released his identity.

Authorities are still trying to determine the course of events
that led to the shooting, but they confirmed that a resident in the
neighborhood confronted the man, ultimately shot and killed him and
then someone inside the house called 911.

Many students of Rutledge Elementary School had to take an
alternative route to school this morning as Staked Plains Drive was
shut down for the investigation.
