Round Rock Chamber of Commerce Commends Voter Approval of Propositions 9 and 10

Round Rock, Texas (November 9, 2011) – The Round Rock Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Partnership tonight commended today’s voter passage of Propositions 1 through 10.

“Round Rock is headed in the right direction, and today’s vote is a reflection of that fact,” said Jim Shelgren, Past Chair of the Round Rock Chamber and Co-Chair of the Betterment of Round Rock Political Action Committee.

“The passage of Proposition 9 will help keep our city property taxes among the lowest in the region by generating additional revenue through tourism,” said Shelgren. “Proposition 10 will promote job creation and economic development, and provide flexibility in the use of Type B sales tax revenue that most other cities already enjoy. It will also free up funds from the general fund budget to help pay for critical city services, including road repair, public safety, and parks.”

The Board of Directors of the Round Rock Chamber this past summer approved a resolution calling on the City Council to place Proposition 9 and 10 on the ballot, and urging voters to pass both propositions.

The Round Rock Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Partnership is the largest business organization in Round Rock, Texas. It has a vital mission: Helping businesses succeed; shaping a positive business climate; attracting and retaining great jobs; developing local leaders; and promoting the quality of life in Round Rock and the region.
