Barton Springs death ruled a drowning

AUSTIN (KXAN) – The  man who died after swimming Barton Springs Pool on Wednesday accidentally drowned, police said Thursday

The man was identified as 21-year-old Timothy Andrew Guerra. He was pronounced dead at an Austin hospital.

According to police, the call came in around 6:10 p.m. for a swimmer who was pulled out of the pool.

CPR was administered and the victim was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge, where he was pronounced deceased at 7:30 p.m.

Austin-Travis County EMS said the Medical Examiner’s office will have to perform an autopsy to determine if the victim drowned or died from medical complications.

Witnesses told KXAN News said the victim was racing with his friends when the incident happened.

According to Victor Ovalle with the Parks and Recreation Department, the last drowning at Barton Springs Pool was in 1990.

A tweet sent from @Barton_Springs account said lifeguards were the ones who performed CPR on the victim.

The pool was closed for the rest of the night. The pool will re-open on Thursday at 5 a.m.
