ROUND ROCK — Round Rock once again ranked high on the annual rankings of the safest cities in the country released by Congressional Quarterly Press, placing 11th on the list of cities with populations more than 100,000.

The city dropped slightly from last year when it ranked ninth among such cities.

According to the study, the rankings are determined using six crime categories: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and motor vehicle theft.

“Very few fast-growth communities can maintain such high rankings year after year,” Mayor Alan McGraw said in a statement. “Our continued presence on this list reflects the City’s continued emphasis on public safety and the commitment and proficiency of our law officers. Our citizens also deserve recognition for their support and proactive involvement in keeping Round Rock safe.”

Round Rock ranked 29th overall for cities with populations above 75,000, and was the fourth safest city of that size in Texas, according to the rankings.Allen, Frisco and Sugar Land all ranked higher.

Fishers, Ind., was the safest city in the country with a population more than 75,000, according to the rankings, while Irvine, Calif., topped the list for those with more than 100,000.

Meanwhile, Flint, Mich., was the lowest ranked city on the list.
