HUTTO — Hutto City Council approved 30-year lease and management agreements Dec. 15 with the Young Men’s Christian Association for the YMCA to operate a recreation center in Hutto.

The recreation center is on track to start construction in the fall on property west of Lowe’s off of Hwy. 79.

Voters approved bonds for a $5 million recreation center in 2009. The city has budgeted $500,000 of the money in the current fiscal year for the design of the facility but will not issue the remaining bonds until closer construction, Finance Director Micah Grau said.

The Hutto facility will be about 25,000 square feet in size and is expected to open in 2013. Grau said the architect will work with YMCA of Greater Williamson County staff to determine the features included in the building, but the facility will probably have an indoor instructional/recreational pool, meeting space and health and wellness space.

Until the new facility is complete, the YMCA is operating at temporary facility at 101 Anthony St.
