HUTTO — The City of Hutto hired Peter Scheets as the new police chief Dec. 14.  

Scheets was formerly the assistant chief of the administrative services bureau for the Bryan Police Department and is set to begin work at the City of Hutto Jan. 9, Assistant City Manager David Mitchell said.

“He is big into servant leadership, which is something that we very much embrace here in the City of Hutto,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell said Scheets has held various positions at the City of Bryan since 1996.

The police chief position in Hutto has been vacant since July, when Harold Thomas announced his retirement from the position.
