H-E-B caters to growing Latino market

AUSTIN (KXAN) – As the Latino demographic continues to grow in Austin, grocery stores are making sure they get a piece of that market.

The H-E-B at North Lamar Boulevard and Rundberg in north Austin has been remodeled into a market that caters to the Latin community in the area.

“We have a very strong Latino base in this area that was telling us what we needed to do so that was kind of the driving force,” said David Seeker, unit director with H-E-B.

H-E-B said they put $7 million dollars to expand the store an additional 6,000 square feet.

The revamped grocery store is set-up Mercado style and customers will be able to get freshly made tortillas as well as aguas frescas.

H-E-B said the store features new products and services not found in any other H-E-B in Central Texas.
